Thank You John

John Caldwell’s decision not to run re-election to the school board created the opportunity for me to run.  I want to take just a moment to thank John for his many years of service to Longmont and St. Vrain.

John has given 20 years of service to Longmont as an elected official – and many more as a volunteer and Rotarian.  That’s 20 years of school nights away from home and family.  Twenty years of time away from business matters.  Twenty years fielding calls at all hours of the day and night from disgruntled constitutents.  Twenty years, thousands of hours and no pay.

But, I know John well enough that he doesn’t look at it that way.  John views his 20 years of elected office as his opportunity to give back to a community that has given him so much.  I’ve heard John say, "That’s the implicit deal.  I’ve received great opportunities from this community so I’m giving back."

John’s philosophy is backed up by thousands and thousands of hours walking the talk.  He has helped make Longmont the great place to live for all of us newcomers.  I hope to emulate his example in a small way.

Thank you John.
