Back to School

We are going to Central Elementary’s back to school open house and picnic tonight.  I am so excited to see my kids excited about school.  For the past 10 days, my oldest daughter squeals with delight every time you mention going back to school.  That’s a first for her.  Part of it is changes that have been made at the school.  We’ve known all summer who her teacher is going to be rather than having to wait until the day before classes begin.  The anxiety level is nil.  The anticipation is high.  Good move.

I am proud to be a part of the Central Elementary community.  We’ve got great families and great teachers.  A lot of poeple work really hard on behalf of the school and students.  It will be great to see those folks again after the summer break.  I’m confident that my kids are learning invaluable lessons about life, not just academics.  At Central, our kids are learning what it takes to be part of a community.

I’ll write more about this later.  For now, it’s picnic time.

  1. Brad Jolly Says:

    “Great families and great teachers.”
Whence the crummy CSAP results, then?
The district refuses to release the number of students who actually pass (Proficient or better) the whole CSAP, but it appears from the subscores that those who pass are outnumbered about 4 to 1 by those who flunk.
I appreciate your enthusiasm for your kids’ school, John, but if this kind of performance is indicative of “great families and great teachers,” I wonder just how low your bar for greatness is set.
